New School Buildings that Sound Amazing!

Schools these days are a vastly different affair compared to what they were just a single generation ago. Schools in previous years tended to be single-purpose affairs; single, stock rooms that were adapted to the particular lesson they needed to teach. For most lessons, this involved decorating the room in a particular style, so Geography teachers would place large maps and diagrams of the water cycle on the walls, whereas English teachers would have pictures of Shakespeare and Dickens, along with supporting passages.

This only became a problem when it came to music rooms. They tended to be the same, slightly echo-y rooms that had a piano placed at the front and a number of children sitting with various instruments. Those of a certain age will remember the giggling that would infect an entire school wing as the sounds of the choir permeated the halls and one poor child sang horribly out of key.

These days, it's a vastly different affair. Schools need to offer a much more involved and in-depth level of artistic subjects. Schools no longer simply hold singing lessons as a way of musical teaching, but instead need to offer recording studios and practice spaces while ensuring these activities don't disturb the rest of the school and their studies.

Retrofitting music rooms with equipment is one possibility, but the far more practical option is to create a whole new area with Education Spaces to meet the evolving needs of pupils and students. Education Spaces rooms are bespoke designed around the school space you have available, thereby avoiding the feeling that an extra room has simply been placed in the school grounds. Our structures are made with SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) that not only offer a cost-effective building solution, but have excellent thermal and sound-proofing capabilities. These not only keep heat and sound inside, but prevent external noise - for example busy roads or other building works - from disturbing those within.

There are also a number of other capabilities to ensure the highest acoustic standards of the space, so regardless of whether pupils are recording or starting a heavy metal band, it performs exactly as you need it to. Rubber under-floor coverings, coupled with wall and ceilings resilient bars and acoustic plasterboard to create a thick surface that helps stop vibration and reverberation can be added at three different levels, meaning that your music rooms and studios are more than capable of meeting almost any noise challenge.

Providing arts and music facilities in schools is an arena that is under constant challenge, not only in terms of funding, but as technology progresses, it becomes harder for educators to offer facilities that enable and excite their pupils. By taking the idea of 'minimal acoustic leak by design' to heart, Education Spaces both understand the challenge and aim to provide the perfect solution for schools in a cost-effective manner.
