Requirement
This school wanted a standalone multipurpose building, ostensibly for use as a dance studio. Our architectural designs for this 'Mono' building were to include an integral office, store room and disabled toilet. Education Spaces took care of all aspects of the Planning Consent and building Control throughout the project. The chosen site was slightly sloped however the school wished for the entrance doors to open level with the ground rather than having ramped access. This required a degree of excavation but most of the spoil was redistributed. Concrete pile foundations were used and the SIPs structure finished externally with kiln dried western red cedar cladding.
Our Solution
• Additional height: This building was 3.25m high externally, giving an impressive 2.7m internal height, finished floor to finished ceiling.
• Stunning design: 2.7m high glazed panels with top opening rapid vents and trickle vents, plus a 5 panel bifold door with trickle vents, creating an incredibly light, spacious and inspiring dance hall that can be opened to the outdoors when weather permits.
• High performance glazing: Ensuring outstanding thermal performance and compliance with fuel consumption and energy emissions.
• Mirrored wall: Mirrored panels along one wall; an important feature for any dance studio.
• Lighting gantry: Education Spaces electrician installed the cabling for this feature that were to be fitted retrospectively.
• Health and safety: We installed all cabling for the Chubb fire and intruder alarms, in close liaison with the local fire officer.
• Disabled access: The 1.8m wide French doors had a low threshold sill for easy access.
• Disabled toilet: Fully equipped with wide entrance, hand rails, hand dryer, opaque glass and a cap and cove floor for hygienic easy cleaning.
• Office and store room: Both installed with vision panels, data points and lockable doors.
• Flooring: Our 10mm v groove laminate flooring was installed.
