Brockworth Primary is a large school with a pre-existing preschool building, that was bursting at the seams. They needed additional preschool and nursery capacity and approached us to discuss design options. The school had an area of real estate that was ideal for a standalone multifunction building. A great amount of thought went into the design and integral components of this compact bespoke facility. The final design ergonomically incorporates toilets, an office, kitchenette, wet play area and an entrance hall. The exterior finish to this SIPs construction is an attractive mix of glazed panels, western red cedar cladding and polymer render, all of which are maintenance free and contribute to the high thermal performance of the building.
Our Solution
• Bespoke Entrance: Accessible through French doors with ultra-low threshold, is a handy 6.35sqm entrance area, with glazed panels, a glazed connecting door and specialist entrance matting, ensuring good visibility of the entrance form the main room and no loos of natural light.
• 75msq classroom / play area: This spacious classroom is bright and functional with an office, fully integrated kitchenette, a wet area and toilets coming off it.
• Wet area: Designed with small people and lots of messy play in mind, this area has waterproof non-slip vinyl flooring, a large stainless steel sink and drainer and integrated cupboards.
• Kitchenette: An important facility for reception and nursery rooms, as the children need regular snacks preparing.
• Integral toilet facilities: Accessible from within the classroom including a fully fitted disabled toilet with alarm pulley. Note the cap cove vinyl floor for easy hygienic cleaning.
• Integral Admin Office: A valuable asset separated from the hubbub of the nursery where phone calls and the administration of the unit can take place.
• Covered walk way: Across the front of the building, with non-slip decking, safety balustrade and ramped and stepped access, providing shelter to children or waiting parents.
• Glazing: Argon gas filled, heat reflective, thermal insulating, UV protective & easy clean high performance glazing throughout (u = 0.1 W/m2k)
• Heating: This nursery, like all our buildings, is extremely thermally efficient. As such minimal energy is required to finely tune the ambient temperatures throughout the year. This is achieved by the installation of two wall mounted convector heaters and two Fujitsu inverter units.
• Disabled access: All doors have ample width and ultra-low threshold for easy disabled access.
• Flooring: The main area and kitchenette are installed with highly durable yet aesthetic 10mm v groove oak effect laminate.
• Lighting: Highly efficient LED downlights and lux panel lighting that performs at under 5 W/m2
